The remote island of Parintins is the stage of the incredible Boi Bumba festival: An explosion of colours, passion and pure joy that every June attracts thousands of people from all around Brazil and few nearby countries, but keeping genuine and not touristic as many realities nowadays. The island is kind of divided into two […]

Belem in the Amazonian region of Brazil

October 17, 2016 by pile Leave a Comment

The city of Belem has an important history as the outpost for the European colonisers to explore the Amazon region (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belem). To reach Belem from Chapada Diamantina a long night by bus to Salvador de Bahia to get my first flight after over 4 months travelling around South America. Thanks to Couch-surfing (www.couchsurfing.com), I meet a new […]

Wild horses

After so many nights spent on buses mostly sleeping, reading and writing the seven hours to reach Chapada Diamantina from Salvador de Bahia pass in a blink of an eye. I get off the bus at Palmeiras where a jeep picks me up and in an half hour drive I’m finally at Vale do Capao! […]

Running on Copacabana and Ipanema beaches

I can’t still picture the real size of the Rio de Janeiro metropolis that even from the airplane seems to not have any end in any direction. It was February, few months ago, when I landed in Rio de Janeiro for the first time in occasion of the Brazilian carnival (The best carnival and waterfalls on earth), one of […]

Colonial city of Paraty: wonders and water reflections @ Brazil

Paraty water reflections

As happened before the suggestion of other travellers and locals met on the way resulted in beautiful surprises: the small coastal town of Paraty in the state or Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is one of them! A night bus from Sao Paulo drops me in the tiny bus station (“Rodoviaria”) of Paraty in the middle of […]

The Best Carnival and Waterfalls on Earth!

February 28, 2016 by pile 1 Comment

Rio de Janeiro Carnival ! As I land in Rio de Janeiro’s the vibe and energy of the Brazilian carnival is all around me. Streets full of people dresses up with any kind of costume from the professional colourful dresses of the Sambódromo parade to last minute make up, the same I will try to do for the next 4 days. I catch up with Nora, a very good friend of mine since the time of my Erasmus in Spain 12 years ago, and after 40 minutes of taxi for 3 km around blocked roads we finally reach home.

Living with the Amazon tribe

February 8, 2016 by pile Leave a Comment

It takes a while to find the (first) jungle adventure and experience right for me… Already on the taxi the driver talk me through a standard tour offered by the agency he works for: pick up by a touristic mini van to get on a boat that sails up the Rio Negro and get photos with the pink dolphins, one or two nights in a comfortable forest lodge alternated with a night in the jungle an hour walk away from the lodge… Simply not what I’m looking for! It need a bit more than a couple of hours of
