Almost Ready to go!
I left you on the plane taking off from Amsterdam and landed safely after 1.5 hours in Milano.
The time for a coffee with a friend and to handover my luggage and I’m on a new flight to Rome for a dinner with an old friend waiting for the day after and the interview with Doctor without Borderd (MSF: Meds Sens Frontières).
Indeed within the experiences of this year there is the desire to do a volunteering job for a period.
The choice of MSF was driven mostly by destiny and the contact with a friend who worked with them for four years.
At 9.00 sharp I sit in the waiting room together with Stefania, 31 years old nurse working in Turin, and Maurizio who just turned 33 years old after finishing the practive as Doctor one year ago. Since then he worked a bit with Emergency and travelled the rest of the time between Australia and few other countries. We’re all motivated by the same desire to do something for the others, to try a new experience knowing the risk that might become addictive and our lifestyle.
The interview ends at noon and is exciting and scaring at the same time giving me a lot to think about.
Being an engineer I would take part in a project as Logistic technician with the responsibilities within the other of the supplies, safety organization, coordination of all not medical local staff and more in general of the good functioning of the system. This role require a commitment from 6 to 9 months for the first mission and the context is obviously the one of emergency, being it a natural catastrophy, medical epidemy or war. For some of these risks for personal safety is so significant to require a curefew at 7pm and even going out for a run is not feasible.
There is no way to know where will be the next emergency and where your help will be needed untill the month before, where the internation context of emergency and aid required will be more clear.
I will pass the selection and the real time for decision gets closer.. will be in early January after my sailing across the ocean!
Time to relax! After celebrating my 8th birthday with the company and my last day of work, my arrival back to Bergamo is welcomed by friends with an amazing surprise with a dinner all together!
